T20 World Cup 2021: Super 12 Points Table After West Indies v Bangladesh & Pakistan v Afghanistan

The Day 7 of the T20 World Cup Super 12 stage saw West Indies take on Bangladesh in the first game of the day before Pakistan was at loggerheads with Afghanistan in the evening match.

The first match was anybody’s game until the last over. Batting first, the Windies put up 142 on the board courtesy of some lusty death overs hitting from Man of the Match, Nicholas Pooran, and Jason Holder. Bangladesh was sloppy in the field, conceding a few too many runs and dropping more than a couple of chances.

In the run chase, Bangladesh looked comfortable at one stage. However, the pressure of the climbing required rate got to them. They left too many runs for the final over which was bowled by Andre Russell, who managed to hold his nerve and claim West Indies’ first victory of the tournament.

The second game of the night had a lot of thrills too. Afghanistan made the bold decision to bat first after winning the toss, straying away from the norm in this T20 World Cup. Their batters had a torrid time, scampering to 76/6 before a stunning partnership between Mohammad Nabi and Gulbadin Naib took them to a fighting total of 147.

The unbeaten Pakistan side got off to a poor start, losing Mohammad Rizwan early on. Skipper Babar Azam played well for his fifty and built a partnership with Fakhar Zaman. Unfortunately, none of the other batsmen stuck around long enough as Pakistan lost wickets at regular intervals.

The game wasn’t done, however. Asif Ali, their protagonist from the previous match, smoked four sixes in the penultimate over off Karim Janat when Pakistan needed 24 to win. It was the Men in Green’s third win in a row and they’re now sitting pretty at the top of the table. As for the Afghans, the loss does hurt but their net run rate is still healthy.
