T20 World Cup 2021: I Expect MS Dhoni-Like Captaincy And Awareness From Team India vs New Zealand – Harbhajan Singh

Veteran India spinner Harbhajan Singh is expecting Virat Kohli to captain similar to MS Dhoni and Team India to have the “awareness” that his former IPL team Chennai Super Kings has had when the Men In Blue take the field against New Zealand in a crucial Super 12 encounter on Sunday in Dubai.

The Indian bowlers couldn’t manage even a single wicket in their loss to Pakistan; the bowlers were insipid with the ball while the side looked dispirited when Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan were batting.

Harbhajan Singh believes that the style of MS Dhoni, who is the mentor for Team India currently, and CSK could be used to good effect when Kohli’s team take the field versus the Kiwis.

“T20s is such a format where if you don’t take wickets, you’ll keep getting further away from the game. For that, the pressure will have to be created through the field setting like MS Dhoni does when he captains CSK,” Harbhajan Singh said in his YouTube video.

“He puts the fielder in such a place where the ball will go. It’s not necessarily the orthodox midwicket or cover, he moves his fielders to places where the ball is expected to go. I expect this kind of captaincy and this kind of awareness from India in this match.”

India will have to build pressure on Kane Williamson upfront: Harbhajan Singh

When he is new to the crease, Harbhajan Singh reckoned Indian bowlers will have to apply pressure on the New Zealand skipper, Kane Williamson. He believes that if India could dismiss Williamson early on, then they could squeeze the New Zealand side to a below-par total.

“India will have to build pressure on Kane Williamson upfront. If India can get him out early, I believe they can even keep their score under 130. And if they do that, India will be able to chase it easily,” the senior off-spinner asserted.

Since Pakistan have won all their three matches, a victory for either India or New Zealand on Sunday will keep them in a good position in the race for the semi-final.
