T20 World Cup 2021: David Warner Is A Class Act – Shane Warne Says Warner Should “No Doubt” Be In Australia’s Playing XI

Australia spin legend Shane Warne backs David Warner to find back his form in the Super 12 stage of the T20 World Cup. Australia take on South Africa on Saturday afternoon in Abu Dhabi to begin their campaign.

However, the form of their star opener is a concern. Warner has been in dismal form recently – his last two knocks in the UAE leg of the IPL were 0 and 2, while in the two warm-up matches, he registered 0 and 1.

Shane Warne, though, feels Warner’s class remains intact and is confident that the left-hander will come good on the big stage.

“To me, Davey Warner is a class act. Okay, he’s had a couple of poor performances or hasn’t really got a score, coming into the tournament he hasn’t played much cricket so he’s a bit out of form,” Shane Warne told SEN Breakfast on Friday.

“But I think he’s the type of guy who rises to the big occasion. The old saying, I know it’s a cliche, but class is permanent and form is temporary. I really think that’s the case with David, I really think he’s so dynamic,” he added.

For me David Warner  plays, absolutely no doubt in those first few games: Shane Warne

Shane Warne has “absolutely no doubt” that Warner should be in the starting eleven for Australia in at least the initial matches. He reckons if the southpaw gets back in touch, he would make a huge impact on Australia’s chances to go deep in the tournament.

“If he’s on song, I think the first couple of games are really important, if he gets away, he could be one of the players of the tournament. He could be absolutely firing, so for me he plays, absolutely no doubt in those first few games, he plays and hopefully finds his touch,” the former spinner asserted.

Australia defeated New Zealand in their first warm-up match before being outplayed by India in the second warm-up fixture. They will find it tough to qualify for the semis when facing the likes of England and West Indies.
