Sri Lanka To Host West Indies For Two Tests In November-December 2021

Sri Lanka is set to host West Indies for a series of two Test matches in November-December this year which will kick start both teams’ 2023 World Test Championship cycle. Currently, both teams are participating in the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 in the United Arab Emirates and Oman, hosted by India.

In the previous cycle of 2019-21, Sri Lanka and West Indies finished seventh and eighth on the table with just one series win each of the six they played. This time, however, both the teams will look to make the most of the opportunities they get in the red-ball tournament to make a mark for themselves.

West Indies last toured Sri Lanka in 2019-20 for three one-day internationals and two Twenty20s. The hosts swept the ODIs 3-0 while the Windies claimed the T20 series 2-0.

Both Tests To Be Played At Galle International Stadium In Colombo

Both the Tests are to be played at the Galle International Cricket Stadium under strict bio-bubble conditions. West Indies are expected to arrive in Sri Lanka on November 10 and play a warm-up fixture from November 14 in Colombo. The first Test then follows from November 21st and the second from November 29.

Sri Lanka toured the West Indies in March this year and played two Tests. Both matches ended in a draw so the two sides will be eager to win the upcoming series.

Earlier the update that the Test series was been preponed from 2022 to November of 2021 was broken by the cricket writer at The Island, Rex Clementine on Twitter in August 2021. He had written:

“The good news is that there will be some Test cricket at home this year. The two Test series against West Indies scheduled for next year has been brought forward to November. SLC likely to play both Tests in Galle,” Clementine had tweeted.

Meanwhile, in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021, Sri Lanka have won one and lost one game in group 1 of the Super 12s round after having to qualify from the qualifying round that was played in Oman and the United Arab Emirates.

The defending champions West Indies have played 3 matches and lost one match while defeating Bangladesh in their most recent encounter in Sharjah.
