The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to receive the hosting rights for the 2031 50-over World Cup.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) have already revealed the schedule for the upcoming major global tournaments which will be taking place from 2024-2031.
Meanwhile, India has been given the hosting rights for the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2023 and the new cycle will begin in 2024 with the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup which is expected to be co-hosted by USA Cricket and Cricket West Indies (CWI). Also, it will be the first-ever T20 World Cup event consisting of 20 teams.
India Set To Receive Hosting Rights For The 2031 50-over World Cup – Reports
If reports are to be believed BCCI along with the 2023 edition of the World Cup might host one or two more global events. Also, the number of participants in the 2027 and 2031 Cricket World Cups will increase from 10 to 14.
“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) may get the last event of the cycle, the 2031 50-over World Cup, as it would be hosting the 2023 edition. The BCCI may also get one more global championship, if not two more.” As reported by Cricbuzz
Meanwhile, India was also set to host the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021. However, due to the Covid-19 situation not being in full control in the country, the marquee event was shifted to United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Oman. Before that India was the host of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2016 where West Indies emerged victorious, also India co-hosted the 2011 Cricket World Cup which the MS Dhoni and co. won.
